I have often passed by Tokyo Café whenever I’m at SM the Block going to the main mall or vice versa. I have always been intrigued that the place always seemed packed. Well, probably because the place is a bit small, thus the illusion. Well, I was pretty curious about the place, enough for me to want to give it a try.
Well, first that you would observe is their window display. Well, I can’t entirely say that the display was appetizing since they were merely a mock setup of their dishes. As you go in, you can see the designed walls which somehow gives a nice ambiance to the place. The waiters were attentive, bordering annoying since ever guest who comes in and out were greeted in Japanese by almost every waiter (making an echo effect). That would have been pretty nice but there were just a lot of people coming in and out and hearing the greeting over and over makes it …errr… a bit annoying.
I first discovered Uno when one of my best friends brought along a whole cheesecake from Uno when we had a simple get together at my place. I think it’s the best cheesecake that I have ever tasted. It’s a melt in your mouth kind of thing. It went pretty well with the Peach flavored Novelino for post dinner conversations. One can simply close his eyes while taking a piece in your mouth and just let your taste buds soak in its awesome flavor. It’s just a pretty simple cheesecake but it pretty much hits home.
I just love how much information one can get through the internet. Usually I would browse through foodie blogs and those other foodie sites where I can get some pretty nice recipes that I can try out. I can really be very experimental in the kitchen. I’ve had my share of dishes that went straight to dogs, but more often than not, their gone in 5 minutes since my bro finishes them up even when they’re still hot. Oh well. Maybe I’ll try some of those healthier dishes just like some easy green bean recipes.
I think everybody loves chocolates! It’s such a comfort food! I actually love making chocolates although it can get pretty tiring. I love receiving chocolate gifts! But I really need to watch my sweets intake so I have to eat them in moderation. It’s nice to have a stock in your refrigerator and pop a small piece or two for dessert. I especially love chocolate with hazelnut and/ or almonds. It’s nice to receive those chocolate boxes where you don’t know what kind of piece you’re going to get. It’s a pretty nice surprise in your mouth. Well, I just don’t like that much those with coconut.
I just love Almon Marina. Whenever I’m at Megamall and can’t think of anywhere to eat, this is my default choice. Or if I’m craving for some comfort food, I usually go here. The salad and sandwich combo just really hits home and would usually leave me satiated. Not to mention, it’s such a healthy choice (just don’t drench your salad with too much dressing!).

I have been experimenting on cooking lately. I’m glad that they all tasted good. Last night was the first time I cooked caldereta. I’m glad my brother liked it. Although I feel that the beef could have been more tender if it was cooked for another 20 minutes or so. Anyway, I’m thinking what to cook next. Maybe I can try out cooking kare-kare. Now that would be another challenge.
I’m really craving for some yummy pansit right now. There are really days when I just really crave for something to eat. I can’t stay put without getting to satisfy my taste buds. I really hope I can get my hands on (or should I say taste buds on) some pansit soon! I especially miss the pansit from Buddy’s! When I was still working in Ortigas we would usually order there whenever there’s an occasion.

It’s been a bit hot again lately. I thought summer was over already and rainy days are here to come. Oh well. Today was really hot! It was a good thing I was mostly spending my day in an airconditioned room. Anyway, I just feel like eating ice cream right now! I miss the ice cream buffet at shakey’s where one can make a mountainous bowlful of ice cream with all the toppings you would want – choco chips, rice crispies, mallows, m&ms, etc. If only it doesn’t ruin one’s figure, I’d probably eat it as often as I could. Oh well. I better watch my sugar level.

It was yet another gastronomical saturday night date for my sweetie and I. Thanks for the gift certificate I got from Citiguide which was at 50% off. As some of my friends would know, we’re buffet addicts. I guess we really just share the common passion for food. Well, we would have probably gone to Paseo Uno again at Mandarin instead if we weren’t able to get gift certificates for Latitude at the Trader’s Hotel.

They did have quite an array of goodies to offer. Well, they’re not exactly that exemplary, though. I even find some dishes a bit dry. But all in all, it was a great experience and we were really stuffed at the end of the night.
Check out some photos I took.

Well, it was a welcome change, although we still think that Paseo Uno is still at the top of our list. We have yet to try Spiral at Sofitel, though and maybe our minds would change.
